MATERIAL LIST
- Hook - The hook shown is a Daiichi 2051 Alec Jackson Spey size 1.5. Any brand salmon/steelhead hook works equally well. Size 8 to 3/0
- Thread - Black 12/0 Uni-Thread.
- Tail - Fluorescent red hackle fibers
- Body - Purple dyed seal or substitute
- Rib - Fine flat varnished silver tinsel
- Hackle - Webby fluorescent red saddle
- Wing - White polar bear hair or calf tail
- Head - Tying thread
TYING INSTRUCTION
- Insert the hook in the vise and build a two layer tying thread base over 1/2 of hook's shank for this very reduced tie. Use more or less thread base to match the size of fly desired.
- Tail - Tie in 10 or 12 fl. red hackle fibers at the rear of the thread base.
- Body - Tie in the ribbing material so that sufficient space is allowed for one turn of the body's dubbing loop to pass beween the tail and ribbing material. Form a tying thread loop. Insert an appropriate amount of purple seal for the size of body being tied and twist the loop into a tight noodle. Wrap the dubbing noodle one turn behind the tail, one turn between the front of the tailand rear of the ribbing material then forward to the rear of normal head space. Secure the noodle with tying thread and trim any excess.
- Rib - The ribbing is as usual wrapped in the opposite direction as the body material wrap. I use a 5 turn ribbing.
- Hackle - Secure the hackle at the front of the body and wrap a one or two turn collar, secure with tying thread and trim any excess hackle close.
- Wing - The wing of this sparse reduced tie is 30 to 40 polar bear hairs, stacked, and attached at the front of the hackle. Please use the hair wing attachment technique that is most comfortable for you. Trim any excess wing butts close.
- Head - Form a tapered tying thread head, whip finish and cement if you like.
WES' COMMENTS
The Whore is of course a variation of the Purple Peril. Randy Stetzer's variation the Prostitue exchanges the original deer body hair wing with white calf tail and perl Flashabou. The Whore is a sort of a painted lady version of the Purple Peril. Light conditions or water clarity don't seem to affect the performance of the Whore as long as the tie is sparse.
