TYING INSTRUCTION
- Insert hook in vise and build a good thread base.
- Tie in the glued foam strip 5/16" in front of the strip's rear end at the bend of the hook. Tie in the rear legs as per instruction below.
- Advance the tying thread to about 2/3 of hook's shank and tie in the front of the foam strip. Trim the excess foam strip close.
- Cut,clean and stack a pencil sized clump of dyed brown deer or elk hair and tie in at the front of the foam body with the tips over the hook's eye. Trim and cover the hair butts with tying thread.
- Tie in the antron wing about 3/4 body length. Trim the excess butts.
- Pull the tips of the deer/elk hair rearward to forn the bullet head. Secure with tying thread at the body tie off point to form a hair collar. Trim the collar from the bottom of the fly.
- Tie in the front legs at the collar/bullet head tie in as per instructions below.
- Whip finish on the collar tie off and cement.
LEG TYING INSTRUCTION
Here is a very good technique John Stennerson uses to attach the legs. Pull the tying thread tight and vertical above the hook at the rear body attachment. A pair of evened 1 1/2" long large round rubber legs is passed behind the tying thread, pinched together at the tips with fingers around the tying thread on the near side of the body, and attached with 3 or 4 loose thread wraps. Leave one leg strand on the near or close side of the body and maneuver the other leg strand to the far or away side of the body. The legs should be placed in the notch in the foam body created by the body tie in. Secure the legs with numerous thread wraps. Repeat for front legs at the collar tie in point.
NOTES
The Uni-Bomber is another variation of the Chernobyl Ant and works very well as a Stone Fly, Hopper, Cicadia simulation in appropriate colors. Other options for leg color are orange, white, yellow, chartreuse, etc., etc. A real "Killer" for Eastern Idaho's South Fork.
