MATERIALS LIST
- Hook - Daiichi 1150, Mustad 80200BR, Orvis 1639, Tiemco 2457. Size 10 and 12.
- Thread - Brown 8/0 Uni-Thread.
- Shell - Closed cell foam wrapped in pearlescent craft paper.
- Under Body - Brown rabbit fur or peacock herl.
- Hackle - Small brown cock saddle
- Head - Tying thread.
- Coloring - Panatone Marker to match natural.
TYING INSTRUCTION
- Insert a hook in the vise, secure the tying thread and build a good thread base the length of the hook's shank.
- Cut a length of closed cell foam appropriate for hook size and form a cylinder with tapered ends. Wrap the pearlescent craft paper around the foam cylinder and twist the ends like a candy wrapper.
- Shell - Tie in one end of the shell at the hook's bend wrapping the tying thread into the foam and trim the excess craft paper.
- Under Body - Tie in the hackle by the tip at the shell tie in point. Form a dubbing noodle on the tying thread and wrap forward to normal head space.
- Hackle - Palmer the hackle to the front of the body, secure with tying thread and trim the excess hackle close.
- Shell - Pull the shell forward and tie off at the front of the under body/hackle,trim the excess craft paper close.
- Head - Cover the butts of the craft paper while building a nicely tapered head, Whip finish and cement.
- Color the shell with Panatone Marker to match the natural.

Wyoming tier Jeff Martin developed the Candy Wrapper Snail eight years ago. Jeff uses the "Snail" mostly on still water when floating snails are present but nothing else seems to be working.
