MATERIALS LIST
- Hook - 1X Short 2X Stout. Daiichi 1530. Mustad 3908. Tiemco 3769. Orvis 1641. Size 12-20
- Thread - Olive 6/0.
- Tail - A tuft of the dubbing used for the abdomen or a few fibers of Antron yarn the same color as the abdomen.
- Abdomen - Brown olive or brown Antron (sparkle) dubbing.
- Wing - Deer Body hair.
- Legs - " Very Optional" Lemon wood duck or mallard dyed wood duck.
- Head/Thorax - Peacock herl.
These are the colors we use for the Snake, Fall River, Henrys Fork, and Montana's Madison. The color of the naturals will vary locally.
TYING INSTRUCTION
- Insert a hook in the vise, secure the tying thread to the hook and build a good thread base.
- Tail - Tie in a tuft of the same dubbing used for the abdomen at the hook's bend about body length.
- Abdomen - Form a loose dubbing noodle by twisting the dubbin on to the tying thread in a counter clock-wise direction. The abdomen should be about 3/4 hook shank length and "fuzzy".
- Wing - Tie in a small clump of deer hair (15-20 hairs) on top of the fly immediately at the front of the thorax. Thw wing tips extend about 2/3 body length. Trim the butts close.
- Legs - "Very Optional" Tie in 5 - 6 wood duck barbs on the bottom of the fly as a beard extending to the hook point. Trim the butts close.
- Head - Tie in 2 peacock herls. Wrap the peacock around the tying thread in a counter clockwise direction 5 or 6 times. Hold the the peacock and tying thread together and wrap the head in close turns and secure with tying thread. Trim the excess peacock, whip finish and cement if you like.
