MATERIALS LIST

  1. Hook: Diachii 1150, #8 through #12; Tiemco 2457 or 3761 for straighter ones.

  2. Thread - beige monochord.

  3. Weight - Lead wire, optional.

  4. Tail - Deer Hair.

  5. Body - Plastic chenille - olive, green or gold.

  6. Shell Back - Deer Hair.

TYING INSTRUCTION

  1. Secure a hook in the vice and build a good thread base.(attach lead wire if desired.)

  2. Tail - Cut off a bunch of deer hair about the size of a pencil and even in a hair stacker. Pull out the longer hairs until you have about a dozen hairs left. Trim to about 1/2 inch and tie in at the curve of hook.

  3. Shell Back - Select and cut another clump of deer hair a little thicker than a pencil and stack in hair stacker. Remove the uneven hairs and restack. This process should leave about two dozen hairs. Cut the hair about 1" from the tips. Tie in the butt end of hairs at the tail tie in point with the tips facing to the hook's rear.

  4. Body - Tie in the plastic chenille body material at the tail tie in point then wrap the tying thread forward to normal head space position. With touching wraps wind the chenille forward to normal head space position and secure with tying thread.

  5. Shell Back - Pull the deer hair forward to the hook's eye so it lays smooth and flat over the back of the chenille. Secure the shell back with several wraps of tying thread. Trim the butts close and finish the head with wraps of tying thread to cover the trimmed butts. Whip finish and cement if you like.

  6. Apply a thick coat of Dave's Flexament to the deer hair back for sheen and strength. Do not get cement in the hook's eye as it is rubbery and difficult to remove when set.
