TYING INSTRUCTION

  1. Epoxy or super glue the 3-D eyes into the depression of the Sea Eyes.

  2. Insert the eye end of a large sewing needle into the tying vise. Make several wraps of thread starting just behind the point. Take a clump of Yak hair about 6 inches long and lay it on top of the thread and fasten with tying thread. Apply a small drop of super glue to the top of the wraps to hold it in place. Take a piece of paly yarn about 2" (50 mm) long and wrap it on top of the Yak hair. Place a small drop of super glue on top of the wraps to hold in place. When dry slide the tail off of the needle. Saturate wraps with Super glue or head cement. Set aside to dry.

  3. When the tail dries place the poly yarn tip in your vise to hold in place, separate the Yak hair into three strands and braid them. A 5" (13 cm) braided piece is needed for the fly.

  4. Tail - Insert the the hook into the vise, apply a 2 to 4 layer tying thread base the length of the hook's shank and secure the tail onto top of the hook's shank about 3/8" (6 mm) behind the hook's eye.

  5. Eyes - Attach the eyes with tying thread to top of the hook's shank.

  6. Body - Tie in the Estaz at the hook's bend and wrap the body to just behind the eyes, secure with tying thread and trim the excess.

  7. Wing - Attach the yak hair wings with tying thread Clouser Minnow style in front of the eyes, red on the bottom and white on the top. Whip finish and cut the tying thread.

  8. Head - Cover the front half of the head with 5 minute epoxy and rotate until dry.

*JERALD'S NOTES*

This fly is the result of a one night stand between a Clouser Minnow and a Purplerator. It imitates no known living creature except an East Coast Weakfish lure, a 1/4 oz. Red and White Bucktail jig combined with a 6" Purple Fire Tail Plastic Worm. Normally I fish the PFT by casting and stripping back as fast as possible. When I see a fish following I stop the retrieve and let the fly sink toward the bottom (thls drives Pike crazy). It can also be crawled slowly across the bottom.
