MATERIALS LIST
- Hook - Any standard length nymph hook. Daiichi 1560, Mustad 3906, Tiemco 3761. Size 14-18.
- Bead - Gold. Appropriate for hook size.
- Thread - Black 6/0.
- Abdomen - Peacock herl.
- Thorax - Gold "Spirit River" flash dubbing.
- Hackle - Brown partridge.
TYING INSTRUCTION
- Bead Head - Slip the gold bead over the hook's point to the hook's eye.
- Insert the hook into the vise, attach the thread, and build a good thread base.
- Attach 2 0r 3 peacock hearl and wrap the abdomen about two thirds of the hook's shank length between the rear of the bead head and hook's bend. Secure with tying thread and trim the excess.
- Form a dubbed thorax between the front of the abdomen and rear of the bead head.
- Trim the barbules from a partridge feather so that when tied in by the tip the concave side of the feather is down. Secure the hackle behind the bead head and wrap no more than 2 turns. Secure with tying thread, trim the excess, whip finish and cement if you like.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
Scott tells me this fly is a very good caddis larva simulation and is very effective during winter months when nothing else is productive.
