MATERIAL LIST
- Thread - Black or red 6/0.
- Hook - This hook is a Daiichi 2441 size 4. Any 2XL or 3XL hook works well. Size 10 to 4.
- Ribbing - Small oval gold tinsel or fine gold wire.
- Body - A single strand of 3-ply olive sparkle yarn.
- Wing - A pair of reddish brown jungle cock neck feathers.
- Cheeks - Jungle cock nails.
- Hackle - A soft greyish jungle cock or hen grizzly neck feather.
- Head - Tying Thread.
TYING INSTRUCTIONS
- Insert hook in vise and build a good thread base.
- Body - Tie in the body and ribbing material at the hook's bend. Wrap the body material forward to normal head space position and secure with tying thread and trim the excess close.
- Wing - Prepare the wing feathers by stripping the barbs from one side the same length as the body and secure the butt end stems with tying thread on top of the hook shank at the front of the body. I like the tips to extend well past the hook's bend. Trim the excess close.
- Ribbing - Hold the wing feathers directly on the center of the top of the body and wrap the rib material through the wing feather barbs to secure the wing stems to the body. Fasten at the front of the body with tying thread and trim the excess close.
- Hackle - Tie in the hackle wrap 2 turns secure with tying thread and trim the excess close.
- Head - Build a tapered head with tying thread whip finish and cement.
HISTORY AND ADDITIONAL NOTES
Actually the "JC" was tied just to find a use for left over jungle cock neck feathers. The "JC" has worked well in October on Yellowstone Park's Madison and Gibbon Rivers. A nice change up if a fancy matuka is the fare of the day.
