CASSIE SICKAU'S PAGE

Cassie is a 6 year old tier from Iowa and has just started tying. She still likes Dad's help.

I have chosen this fly because it is easy to do for a beginning fly tier. Here are some of the materials that are used in it's construction.

CASSIE LITTLE BRASSIE

  1. #10 Mustad dry fly hook
  2. Medium copper wire
  3. Peacock herl
  4. Griffiths 14/0 black thread
  5. Fingernail Polish

Tying Instruction

  • Begin the construction of the fly by placing the hook in the vice and laying down a base of thread starting just behind the hook eye and progressing back to a point just behind the barb on the hook.
  • Next tightly tie in the copper wire then wrap the thread back towards the hook eye. Begin wrapping the copper wire towards the hook eye, stopping about 1/8th of an inch behind the eye.Now tie oft the copper wire with the thread and trim the excess wire.
  • Now you can tie in several strands of the peacock herl which forms the head of the fly. Wrap the herl several times around the hook shank, then tie offwith the thread.Trim the excess herl and thread and seal with a small amount of clear fingenail polish
