MATERIALS LIST

  1. Hook - Daiichi 1280, Mustad 94831, Orvis 1638, Tiemco 5212, size 8.

  2. Thread -Black 6/0 Uni-Thread.

  3. Body - ½" wide, 1¼" long black and tan closed cell foam strips glued together with super glue. 1 drop at either end and 1 drop in the middle.

  4. Legs - 4 strands 1½" long large black round rubber legs.

TYING INSTRUCTION

  1. Insert the hook in the vise, attach the thread, and build a good thread base. Leave the thread at the rear of the hook shank.

  2. Body and Legs - Trim both ends of the foam body material to a point. The body is tied at 2 points. The rear tie in is even with the hook's barb and the front tie is at the rear of normal head space. Tie the rear first and then tie in the rear set of legs leaving the front of the foam strip unattached. After the rear legs are in place advance the thread to the front of the hook shank and make the front body tie in and attach the front legs.

LEG TYING INSTRUCTION

This is the technique John uses to attach the legs. Hold the tying thread tight vertically above the hook at the rear body attachment. A pair of evened 1½" long large round rubber legs is passed behind the tying thread, pinched together with finger tips around the tying thread on the near side of the body, and attached with 3 or 4 loose thread wraps. Leave one leg strand on the near or close side of the body and maneuver the other leg strand to the far or away side of the body. The legs should be placed in the notch created by the body tie in. Secure the legs with numerous thread wraps. Advance the tying thread to the front body tie in point. Tie in the front of the body and repeat the leg tie in instructions. A marker of bright colored foam tied at the top of the front body is recommend for visibility. Whip finish and cement under and in front of the free portion of the body.
