    MATERIALS LIST GREEN CAREY

  1. Hook - Any 2XL nymph hook.

  2. Thread - Olive 6/0.

  3. Tail - Sparse green marabou.

  4. Body - Half and Half blended Peacock Green "Hairline Krystal Dub" and #16 Peacock Caddis Emerger "Upstream".

  5. Hackle - Body length natural pheasant rump.

  6. Head - Tying thread.

MATERIALS LIST BLACK CAREY

  1. Hook - Any 2XL nymph hook.

  2. Thread - Red 6/0.

  3. Tail - Sparse dyed black pheasant rump hackle fibers.

  4. Ribbing - Silver ot gold "Holographic Tinsel".

  5. Body - Rainbow "Tubin' Times Nymph Dubbing".

  6. Hackle - Body length dyed black pheasant rump.

  7. Head - Tying thread.

TYING INSTRUCTION

    Tying instruction is the same for both flies except the Black Carey's ribbing

  1. Insert hook into the vise and build a good thread base.

  2. Tail - Attach a two thirds body length tail at hook's bend.

  3. Ribbing - For Black Carey. Attach a length of Holographic tinsel at the tail tie in.

  4. Body - Attach a tying thread dubbing loop at the tail tie in and add sufficient dubbing matereial to wrap a thin tapered three fourth hook's shank length body. Secure the dubbing loop with tying thread and trim the excess. Wrap (For The Black Carey) a 4 or 5 turn rib to the front of the body, secure with tying thread and trim the excess.

  5. Hackle - Tie in by the tip a peahasant rump feather, wrap a 2 turn hackle, secure with tying thread and trim the excess.

  6. Head - Build a tapered tying thread head, whip finish and cement.

NOTES

Bob Sutherlin has created excellent alternatives to the standard Carey Special. These flies are equally effective in srteams.
