Use a lighter or match to melt a bead onto the end of the mono and pull the mono rearward enough to allow a leader to pass through the hooks eye. Whip finish and super glue the thread and mono.

JEFF MARTIN'S COMMENTS

This fly works wellwhere there is cover such as cattail reeds. With the dumbbell eyes on top of the hook's shank the fly rides through the water upside down. This means great hookups in the roof of the mouth. Along with riding upside down the weed guard makes the fly very snag proof. Cast the fly to the edge of or into the cover. Let the fly sink for some time, strip 5 to 10 times with 6 to 10 inch strips, allow the fly to sink again and repeat the process. Some times the strikes are subtle like a hang up on the reeds. Other times "Hang On" because there will be no doubt!
