THE 08

IMAGE MATERIAL LIST
  1. Hook - Size 3/0 - 4, Salmon

  2. Thread - Unithread blue, or purple 6/0

  3. Tail - Purple Marabou fluff, about 3/8 - 1/2" long

  4. Body - Pink and black wool, woven, black on the top

  5. Hackle - Regular Plymouth/Barred Rock rooster: tied palmer with the first wrap veiling the tail

  6. Wing - Purple marabou fluff, about half body length...tied vertical

  7. Head - Tying thread

METHOD

Establish tail. Before tying in the body wools, bulk up the hook shank with a commercial nymph form, a triangular wedge of thin plastic, or use the body wools as a build. Tie in the hackle feather by the butt, weave the body, and palmer with the hackle. Tie in the upright wing. Build head. Because the wool ends, the hackle, and the wing all end up at much the same spot, a super small head is not an option, but a neat head is still attainable. The fly is fished in the normal wet fly manner. Strikes are usually quite hard...with very few short takes. A Fall time variation of the .08 is entitled "THE HALLOWEEN MARY".. and is woven using orange and black yarns, subbing orange marabou for the purple. Pretty scarey..Halloween Mary!!

COMMENTS

This fly was created under the influence.. hence the name...08 being the upward limit of blood alcohol for driving in Canada. After that.. they take you away!
