INTRODUCTION TO THE WALKER
CENTER
Founded in 1976 by Archie D. Walker, our mission is to provide quality,
cost effective and accessible family-based alcoholism and drug addiction treatment.
Our process has been accredited by the Joint Commission Accreditation of Healthcare
Organizations (JCAHO) and is licensed by the Idaho State Department of Health &
Welfare. Our status is non-profit which allows us to keep our focus on our clients.
Our commitment extends not only to our clients but to their families as well. We
believe family involvement in treatment is extremely beneficial and in some cases crucial
to recovery. Our Family Program includes an enlightening, three-day experience
offered during each resident's stay. The focus is on education, lectures, films,
process groups and group therapy.
To assist residents and their families in recovery, a strong Continuing Care Program
(Aftercare) is provided on a weekly basis at all of our outreach centers. In
addition, our Alumni Association hosts family-oriented events and activities throughout
the year.
The Walker Center's Outreach Counselors serve Southern Idaho by providing a variety of
services to area communities, including assessments, crisis interventions, public
speaking, workshops, in service training, cooperation with employee assistance programs
and referrals.
AFFORDABLE CARE:
The Walker Center's residential and outpatient treatment programs are very
affordable. A 1996 cost comparative study by the University of Georgia Institute for
Behavioral Research, found that the Walker Center's residential and outpatient treatment
programs rank in the top 20% in terms of affordability of cost for all programs in the
nation.
