Obituary:
ELDER SAMUEL BROLLIAR
Editor of The Saline County Democrat For the Past Seventeen Years, Succumbs to Heart Attack
One of the earliest of the early pioneers to settle in this vicinity has answered the last call. Elder Brolliar came to Saline county on June 2, 1863 from Iowa with his mother, two brothers, and one sister, making the trip in a prairie schooner. Wilber had not been thought of when Mr. Brolliar first set foot on Saline County soil. Swan City, the first county seat, did not have its beginning until several years after he came. Nebraska was still a territory, Saline county was not yet organized.
Samuel Brolliar was born in National County, Ohio, February 25, 1852 and passed away on January 12, 1942 at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 18 days.
He was married to Florence Garten on January 5, 1879. To this union were born seven children, Mrs. Henry White, Mrs. Robert Hawes and Walter Brolliar of DeWitt, Frank and Earl of Wilber; one son Ernest who died in Portland, Oregon in 1919 and one son Samuel, who died in infancy.
On September 15, 1884 he was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by Elder R. J. Anthony. He was ordained an Elder on September 22, 1907. He was pastor of The Blue River Branch of this church for almost 25 years.
His wife, Mrs. Florence Brolliar, preceded him in death on December 23, 1929.
On December 16, 1933 he married to Miss Julia Keller of Eustis, Nebr.
His is survived by his wife, and his five children, 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was a loving father and husband, and departed leaving a host of friends. He will long be remembered by the remarkable life he led and his host of friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 2:00 p.m. from the Havel & Houser Funeral chapel, Rev. Wm. Shakespeare of Lamoni, Ia., officiating. Interment was had in the Sunnyside Cemetery northwest of Wilber.
