Footprint in the sand. The first footprint on the lunar surface, by Neil Armstrong. Commander of the Apollo 11 mission. Date: July 20, 1969 A.D.

Listen to the first historic words spoken from the lunar surface by Neil Armstrong. "Thats one small step for man..."

Apollo missions were the ultimate in space exploration and human determination for knowledge. The Apollo missions proved the American spirit was alive and well. For a brief period in time the people of the world could forget about their problems and watch in amazement as the first "Moonwalkers" , Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, stepped out onto the lunar soil, while Mike Collins orbited overhead..... Although it was the shortest lunar EVA of all the missions , Apollo 11 brought back a wealth of information that paved the way for others to follow ! What must it have been like to walk on such a foreign world? Only twelve human beings know the answer to that question !

This is a photo of the Apollo 17 LM , notice the shadow of the Astronaut taking the picture. The LM ( Lunar Module ) was a bug like space ship built by the Grumman Corp. The walls were like tin foil, very thin, some thought an Astronaut might put his foot through the floor if he was not careful ! The LM proved to be a fine piece of machinery, even capable of acting as a life boat, providing power and oxygen to the Astronauts, as in the Apollo 13 example.
