An almost 75 year old tradition continues to grow each and every year
in Buhl. The "Sagebrush Days" parade is continually changing
to be one of the Magic Valley's best displays of public pride in their
community. The mile-long (at least!) parade is led by a grand marshall,
an honored person from the community.
"Sagebrush Days" is a title for all the events that happen
during the first 4 or 5 days of July. The celebration begins with the annual
sidewalk sales, annual fun run/walk, and community worship services. The
parade, fish feed, mud volleyball, mountain men exhibits, Dutch oven cook-offs,
legion baseball play, firefighters barrel adventure, youth fish scramble,
car show, concessions, food, food, food, and community concerts are some
of the variety of events to keep people involved. The culminating event
is a dazzling display of fireworks sponsored by the Buhl Chamber of Commerce.
The Buhl PeeWee Rodeo occurs four times during the months of June, July,
and August. Children under the age of 14 are eligible to participate. Events
in this rodeo include: calf riding, steer riding, barrel racing, pole bending,
and goat tying. The rodeo is sponsored by the Buhl Rodeo Association. The
participants gather points from each event and at season's end, there is
a banquet where awards are distributed.
A new addition to the Christmas season celebration is the entrance of
Santa Claus via a light parade about the second week of December. Entrants
in the parade are from civic organizations, groups, and individuals. The
parade is open to all entrants and there are prizes for each category.
Dress warmly!
The Chamber of Commerce sponsors
an annual Easter egg hunt for youngsters ages 1-10. The children
are turned loose to collect the plastic eggs. Each group of children (they
are grouped according to age), pick up as many eggs as they can. There
are regular eggs and "golden eggs" for the children to find.
After the hunt, the chamber businesses redeem the regular eggs for 10 cents
each. The golden eggs are valued at $1 each.
The Buhl Chamber of Commerce is also the main sponsor for the annual
Farmer's Market, which is held each Saturday from late May until mid-September.
The market features homegrown fruits and vegetables, hand-made crafts,
and friendly conversations. Shoppers can find items such as potatoes, corn,
beans, apples, peaches, beets, fresh bread and rolls, tomatoes, homemade
pies and cakes, small garden plants, etc. The market is located in the
Senior Citizens parking lot on the corner of Broadway and Main Street.
The hours are from 9:00 a.m. until approximately 12:00 p.m.
